2009-2010 Board
Ray has been Long time runner (oldest running log is 1981) but ran some before that. Ray ran the 440 and mile relay at Mehlville High School (St. Louis) with a personal best of 51.3. Ray won the intramural championship at Central Missouri State in college in the 440 and played a little baseball there.
Ray is working hard to return to previous form after a series of setbacks. Ray is often is often seen on the trails wanting to get dirty. Ray running accomplishments include two marathons and based upon history he should being doing another in 2010 (Dallas 1992 3:35, Chicago 2001 3:57). Several years ago, Ray stepped up and organized LGRAW's participation in the 2001 "Flag Across America Run"; the movement of the US flag from Boston to Los Angeles following the events of 9/11. Afterward, he considered it an honor to have been able to carry the flag during part of the run here in Texas. Ray often tells of the feeling of pride and joy to have been involved remembering the outpouring of support from strangers along the route as the flag passed. It was not his longest run and it wasn't a PR but it was my most memorable run. Contact Ray at: rayh@RunnersAndWalkers.com Vice President - Bridget Smith
Bridget's family has been members of RAW since 2004. We joined soon after David and I ran our first marathon together. Since then RAW has become our home away from home when it comes to family and friends. I would describe myself as a middle of the pack runner, happier in longer distances and can honestly say the marathon is my favorite distance due to the pure accomplishment of it. I run to keep myself fit and healthy so I can live a long and happy life with my husband David and my two boys, Eamon and Cullen. I think my greatest personal accomplishment in running was being named the RRCA Southern Region Female Masters Runner of the Year in 2006. Having never been an active person before, being recognized for doing something that I love was an unbelievable honor.Contact Bridget at: BridgetS@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Brad joined RAW in June 2006 and has become more involved with club activities over the past year with regular attendance at weekend runs and social activities. He often volunteers for water duty and regularly provides additional refreshments to enjoy after the run. He was selected as the recipient of the May 2008 'Giving Back to the Sport' recognition. He recently ran a PR at the Flying Pig Marathon and then improved it at Grandmas Marathon. His goal is to qualify for the 2009 Boston Marathon. In addition to running, he enjoys biking, volleyball, skiing, camping, football - just about anything outdoors. Brad would like to serve on the board as Treasurer in order to give back to the club. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in accounting. Contact Brad at: BradL@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Doug has been a member of RAW since 1998. When not running, he works as a project manager for Perot Systems. He started running about that time mostly due to sibling rivalry since he couldn't bear that his brother Alan was planning to run a marathon while he'd be lucky to run one mile. He's run a couple of marathons and one ultra since, but prefers the considerably more sane distance of half marathons.
Doug lives in Grapevine with his wife, Courtney, and their young son, Scott. He has been keeping the membership database updated for 3 years, mailing out new member and renewal letters as well as the Footprint, and also volunteers frequently at RAW events. He can normally be found at the clubhouse on whichever weekend day Courtney is watching Scott. Contact Doug at: DougN@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Susan began running 13 years ago when she took a leave of absence from her job because she didn’t want to get fat. Susan discovered RAW in 1999 and has been actively involved ever since, serving several times on the Board and as the Footprint editor for four years. Susan ran her first marathon at age 48 and ran her tenth this January. She runs to fight the aging process and so she can indulge in the four major food groups: chocolate, cheese, bread and wine. The social aspect of RAW is a huge part of her life! Contact Susan at: SusanB@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Michael has been a member since September 2007. He was introduced to the club(I was elated to find a group of runners with the same interest!(Beer)) by Bridget and David while registering for the Mustang Coppell 5k. Michael has been running around for a long time he’s has completed 30+ marathons (six NYC), and ran many 1/2’s, 10ks and 5’s. Michael had been the captain of his Corporate running team for 30 years and is presently a volunteer Fireman/Emt in Double Oaks F.D.

Bold In The Cold is RAW's first race of the year and a great way to get your running season off to a good start. Many might feel running in January would be difficult with the weather, but for many years the weather has been very good for the race. Mike Evans and Jeff Barnhart are race directors for the 2009 race. Sponsorship opportunities are always available. For Information Contact LGRAW Bold In the Cold Race Directors Double Trouble 5K and 10K ![]()
Double Trouble 5K and 10K is the last RAW race of the season and is also a very unique race with providing runners the opportunity to run two races in one event. The 5K and 10K races starting times are schedule with enough time for a participant to run both races and have enough time to recover between the starts. This marks the 10th year of the race and K2 and Terry are sure to add some surprises this year to the event. Sponsorship opportunities are always available.Contact K2 and Terry: Double Trouble Race Directors |

Scott calls himself a chronic golf junkie, he lifted myself off the couch approximately 13 years and 40 pounds ago and started running. Having no background in endurance sports and being in terrible shape, he suffered through pain and injuries for 3 or 4 years before starting to gain 'enjoyment' from my exercise. After running for a couple years, Scott introduced Triathlons into the mix. This changed everything for him as he mentality converted from 'having to go out for a run for exercise' to actually finding a lifestyle which Scott has become increasingly passionate about with every passing year. With the exception of a 2 year stint in the late nineties Scott has been a dedicated runner and triathlete. He loves to train and compete and for the past several years have put in 500-600 hours a year of training built around an annual Ironman of which he has completed 7 around the world. Scott feels he has a couple more years in of chasing the dream of qualifying for the Hawaii Ironman and then thinks he will need to find a little more 'balance' in my training/life commitment. Tony classifies himself as generally, a middle-of-the-packer runner and like both roads and trails. Having lost a lot of weight, and not started running until 2004, he considers lots of events among his greatest running accomplishments, his 1st 5k, 1st Marathon. When asked which is the top he says his greatest running accomplishment he would borrow a John the Penguin Bingham quote: "The miracle isn't that I finished, the miracle is that I had the courage to start". Tony is always seen at or around the clubhouse and is the winner of the 2009 RAW's Best Foot Forward Award (Member of the Year)Contact Tony at: TonyF@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Emily is somewhat new to running consistently after being "off and on" for much of her life, and she is excited to finally have made it a priority. Emily gave couch to 5K a try about a year ago and has never looked back. She has completed a few 5Ks and 10Ks as well as her first half marathon in July 2009. This race, which was a fundraiser for Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, was her inspiration to attempt a greater distance than she had ever thought she would try to run.
Emily says she is not a sprinter and will probably never win a race, but what's important to her is finishing, enjoying each one for the unique experience that it is, and having the chance to better her own time for that distance. Emily, like many, races against herself much more than against others. She thinks it is amazing how many different ways there are to enjoy the sport and how many different and great people are a part of it. Contact Emily at: EmilyJ@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Cindy Lee has been a member of RAW since 2003 and has been active in club events from the beginning. She began running 10 years ago and ran her first marathon in Duluth MN at the Grandma's Marathon. She since ran 5 more marathons and twice as many 1/2 marathons. She is running for her 2nd term on the board and hopes to be part of keeping this club the wonderful place that it is.Contact Cindy at: CindyL@RunnersAndWalkers.com
Terry would consider himself as competitive in his age group. Many years ago he considered himself a speedster. One thing Terry learned early on in the sport was that each of us has an "X" on our back and that someone is wanting a piece of the "X". By far the greatest accomplishment that he considers accomplishing in running is to have ran over thirty marathons under 3:00. He is still amazed that he remained healthy enough to finish that many marathons.

BRAw is a (so far) free, entry-level cycling group of more than 100 members, based in Grapevine, TX. Our no-drop, casual, social, Monday night rides average 15 - 18 mph for an hour or two, and are ideal for someone who just bought their first road bike (probably too fast for hybrid or mountain bikes, unless you're a cycling monster like Don Strome or Karen Robertson.) Some of us frequently ride with Mad Duck, Fort Worth Bicycling Association, Carrollton Cycling Club, and other groups Highlights of our season include the Shiner BASH and the Hotter Than Hell. Default time for training rides is 6:30 pm Monday nights (suspended when Daylight Savings Time ends), from the clubhouse of Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers, but check the latest discussion by clicking on "Messages" in the leftside toolbar. For up-to-date information on upcoming rides and events first the BRAw Site Marty and his lovely wife, Tia, have each served on the board and hosted numerous club parties and post-ride cookouts. When they moved to Grapevine and joined the club in 1998, “Buster” had to walk up the hill at the ¾ mile mark. Besides six marathons, he went on to toe the line at 16 ultra-marathons, including a finish at the Rocky Raccoon 100, and over 113 miles at the UltraCentric 48 Hour where he raised $3000 for pediatric burn victims. Hélène and Alan Walker, Tom Ruyle and Lee Miller inspired him to give triathlons a chance, leading him to complete about a dozen, including the 2007 IronMan 70.3 National Championships in St. Croix. While training for his first few triathlons, Marty responded to popular request and organized a cycling group called, BRAw (Bike Run And walk, you might have to see the BRAw wear to understand the significance of the case selection). Be careful what you ask for, as the latest requests are resulting in the formation of an open water swim group! Marty and BRAw travel to numerous cycling events each year, culminating with the famous “Hotter Than Hell 100”.
